Ardbeg Ten has long been one of only three "permanent" Ardbeg expressions, and has never been quite as respected as Uigeadail or Corryvreckan, undeservedly so. Ten is a masterpiece of scotch in its own right, demonstrating how you can have a dram loaded with peat, smoke, seaweed, maritime flavors as well as malt, citrus, and many other flavors, and have them all work in harmony. Ten is balanced, but isn't old enough for all the flavors to be blended, so they change slowly as you sip, revealing one flavor after another. Ten is less sweet and oily than Uigeadail or Corryvreckan, and not as sweet (no sherry casks in the process), so with its herbal and saline tones, and subdued sweetness, it's not for beginners and newcomers to the Islay heavy-hitters, but for the connoisseurs used to those powerful flavors, it's Paradise in a Bottle and at a fantastic price, too.
