What's New in April: Wine Tastings, Seminars and the Arrival of Spring
Dear Friends,
We mark the start of April with the arrival of the season’s first rose wines and, though we’re still crawling out of this year’s winter in the Bay Area, we know that spring can’t be too far off. While we wait (albeit impatiently), I’ve kept on a few more richly textured whites and cozy reds in the wine bar just in case.
In a new twist this month, I’m bringing a few handpicked sake to the menu to highlight some of the awesome producers we carry and give sake-curious customers a chance to try before buying a bottle from amongst our small but thoughtfully curated Sake selections.
From the new additions to April’s wine by-the-glass, I'm most excited about Henri Milan Luna & Gaia Blanc 2019. Henri Milan and family crafts organically-farmed, minimal intervention wines in total respect for nature from vines grown in Provence at the foothills of the Alpilles mountains. The Luna & Gaia Blanc is a unique blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and Vermentino that spends 20 days on the skins in concrete tank. The wine is juicy and lively with a subtle herbaceousness and touch of fresh ginger. An excellent orange wine to mark the arrival of spring!
After a busy March, we move forward into April with a full calendar of in-store tastings and wine seminars to keep your palates sharp. Though we’d love to have you join us for every single event, here is my shortlist of highlights in case you are having trouble deciding:
- Enrico Nada of Giuseppe Nada in Barbaresco (Wednesday April 19th)
- California Central Coast winemakers Ryan Stirm and Jehan Hakimian of Stirm Wine Co. and Los Chuchaquis (Thursday April 20th)
- Mommenpop Napa-based aperitifs featuring their recently released Meyer Lemon seasonal flavor (Thursday April 27th)
If you haven’t yet, you can see the complete calendar of events and even subscribe to it if you’d like. You can also find us on Instagram, where our team shares
That’s all for now. I’ll see you at the shop, glass in hand.
