Nestled in the foothills of the Alpilles mountain range, in a gorgeous section of Provence better known for bulk rosé and summertime tourism than for fine wine, Domaine Milan is an oasis of vibrant, organically-farmed vineyards and some truly glorious wines. But it wasn't always this way. In the 1980s, after the iconic soil scientist Claude Bourguignon praised the unique quality of the yellow and blue marl soils sitting on a bedrock of pure limestone — similar to the famed terroir found at Château Rayas — Henri made the radical decision to take back his family vines, convert to organic viticulture and to naturally vinify and bottle his own wine.
Today, Henri’s son Théo is at the helm and continues his father’s work, farming with great intention and care, and crafting wines that deliver the unfiltered pleasures of low-intervention wine — without veering too far into the wild.
