What is this wine?
Founded in 1734, Taittinger is one of Champagne’s historic houses, known for its Chardonnay-driven style. Comtes de Champagne is the estate’s prestige cuvée, a Blanc de Blancs made exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs (notably Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, and Cramant). Only produced in the best vintages, it is fermented in stainless steel and aged for at least 10 years on the lees before release. The 2007 vintage, though cooler and earlier than surrounding years, produced wines of finesse, precision, and longevity.
Why get this wine?
Comtes de Champagne is one of the world’s greatest Blanc de Blancs Champagnes, often compared with Salon and Dom Ruinart, but still relatively undervalued. The 2007 vintage offers crystalline purity and elegance, making it a perfect choice for collectors or anyone celebrating with a legendary Champagne.
What does this wine taste like?
Lively citrus, green apple, and pear with layers of brioche, almond, white flowers, and chalky minerality. Silky and precise, with a fine mousse and an exceptionally long, saline finish.
When should you drink this wine?
Beautiful now for its energy, but will age gracefully through 2040. Ideal with caviar, oysters, or refined seafood dishes.
