What is this wine?
Isole e Olena is one of Chianti Classico’s benchmark estates, founded by Paolo De Marchi in the 1970s and now run by his son Luca. Located in Barberino Tavarnelle, the estate’s high-altitude vineyards (350–490m) sit on rocky galestro and alberese soils, producing wines of elegance and precision. The Chianti Classico is 100% Sangiovese, fermented with native yeasts and aged in a mix of French and Slavonian oak. The 2021 vintage was outstanding—classic in structure and balance, with ripe fruit and freshness.

What does this wine taste like?
Bright red cherry and raspberry with notes of violet, tobacco, and wild herbs. Medium-bodied, with lively acidity, polished tannins, and a long, mineral finish. Classic and precise.

When should you drink this wine?
Delicious now with a short decant, but will age gracefully through 2035. Perfect with tomato-based pasta, roast chicken, bistecca alla Fiorentina, or pecorino.

Left Chianti Classico

Nestled on a perfect hillside in Chianti Classico, Isole e Olena has some of the most coveted vineyards in the entire region. As a 4th generation winemaker in his family Paolo de Marchi has been at the helm of the winery since the 1970s. He spent many harvests in California as well as France, which influenced him to modernize and improve many aspects of viticulture and winemaking in Chianti.

Bit by bit, it reveals characteristic nuances of brushwood, currants, rosehip, strawberry and pepper. Succulent and light on feet, the palate is judiciously concentrated with pure and persistent red berries. Taut, integrated tannins provide definition, and it trails off with garden-fresh herbs.
