What is this wine?
Domaine Leflaive is one of Burgundy’s most legendary domaines, producing benchmark Chardonnay from Puligny-Montrachet and its grands crus. Les Pucelles is a premier cru that sits just below Bâtard- and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, sharing their chalky soils and perfect exposition. Known for its combination of power and elegance, it is often regarded as a “super-premier cru.” The 2020 vintage was warm but balanced, yielding whites of concentration, precision, and long-term age-worthiness.

Why get this wine?
Leflaive’s Pucelles is one of the domaine’s crown jewels, consistently showing near–grand cru quality at the premier cru level. With the precision of biodynamic farming and impeccable cellar work, the 2020 vintage offers both richness and crystalline energy, making this a rare and highly collectible wine.

What does this wine taste like?
Ripe pear, citrus, and white peach layered with hazelnut, white flowers, and crushed stone. Concentrated and silky, with vibrant acidity, chalky minerality, and a long, elegant finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Best from 2026–2042. Decant if drinking young. Superb with lobster, scallops, turbot, or creamy poultry dishes.

There are many outstanding producers of white Burgundy. When it comes to Puligny Montrachet one name is at the pinnacle - Domaine Leflaive. For many generations of the family and of Burgundy lovers they have been the one you want in your cellar. These are some of the most consistent and long lived white Burgundies from the Bourgogne Blanc, to the Puligny Montrachet, to the premier and grand crus. These are wines you can cellar for many years with complete confidence.

Anne-Claude Leflaive and her right-hand man Pierre Morey were pioneers of biodynamic farming. After seven years of experiments while the property was two-thirds organic and one third biodynamic, all of the vineyards were converted to biodynamic in 1997.

The farming is immaculate, there are constant improvements of the pruning, composting and cultivation of cover crops. Most of the vines were planted in the 1950's and 1980's, the vines are mature. The cellar work is slow and measured, the wines rest for at least two winters in their cold cellars, first in barrel, then in stainless steel tanks for the second winter. There is a maximum of 20% new oak for the premier crus. They are always working to make even greater wines.

"Prominent notes of honeysuckle, Granny Smith apples, spice and a plenitude of spice elements are similarly wonderfully fresh and bright. The rich, delicious and succulent medium-bodied flavors also possess a highly sophisticated mouthfeel along with ample punch on the finely detailed, focused and hugely long finish. This too is a wine of class and grace that should age effortlessly over the next 12 to 15 years. A stunner of a Pucelles. "

"The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles 1er Cru has a slight mustiness on the nose at first, clarifying to a degree with aeration. Light peppermint scents emerge and perhaps slightly detract from its terroir. There's more yellow fruit here. The palate is well-balanced with a tangy opening, fresh and vibrant. This is a livewire Les Pucelles in the best sense, with plenty of sapidity towards the finish. This is a well-crafted Les Pucelles that is surfeit with energy. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting." -Neal Martin

"The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles unwinds in the glass with aromas of pear, peach and green apple mingled with white flowers, freshly baked bread and baking spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with a layered, charming mid-palate and a precise finish, it's a charming, seamless wine in the making." -William Kelley

"A vineyard heavily infected by viruses, reducing yield and resulting in the medium-term catch-22 of non-viable yield with superb quality and concentration. Tank sample. Every step is a step up here. Pucelles is immensely concentrated, the richest so far but absolutely contained by a lashing of precise, linear acidity."

"A smooth white, bordering on creamy but with bright acidity, featuring lemon cake, apple tart, mineral, vanilla and clove flavors. Features a fillip of bitterness, like grapefruit peel, on the spicy finish. Youthful and exuberant. Best from 2025 through 2032."
