What is this wine?
Domaine Dujac Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2023 is a stunning Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most admired domaines. Founded in 1968 by Jacques Seysses, Dujac is now led by Jeremy and Alec Seysses and Diana Snowden Seysses, who continue the family’s hallmark approach: whole-cluster fermentation, native yeasts, and minimal intervention. The Charmes-Chambertin vineyard, in the southern sector of Gevrey-Chambertin, sits on shallow limestone and clay soils, producing wines that marry aromatic delicacy with depth and structure.

Why get this wine?
Among Grand Crus, Charmes-Chambertin is prized for its seductive perfume and silky texture—and in Dujac’s hands, it achieves remarkable refinement and energy. The 2023 vintage offers balance, purity, and lifted fruit, showcasing the domaine’s deft touch with whole clusters and its deep understanding of terroir. This is a collectible Burgundy that expresses elegance and longevity in equal measure.

What does this wine taste like?
Graceful and layered, with notes of red cherry, wild strawberry, rose petal, and exotic spice. The palate is supple and fresh, underpinned by fine tannins and a persistent, mineral-driven finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Drink 2029–2045. Decant young bottles for an hour before serving. Superb with roast duck, game birds, or truffled dishes.

Even very casual consumers of Burgundy have likely heard of Domaine Dujac, considered one of the very best producers in Morey-Saint-Denis. This is a rather astounding fact given that the Domaine is only 50 years old, a blink in the eye given the region's winemaking history.

When Jacques Seysses purchased the estate of Marcel Graillet in 1967, it was in disrepair and had been selling fruit off in bulk for some years. In less then a decade he had invested heavily in the property and found customers for his domaine bottled wines. The Dujac name begin to be seen at top restaurants in France and beyond.

Fast forward 20 years and you have Jacques' sons, Alec and Jeremy, taking over the reigns of the now expanded Domaine, with holdings in Gevrey, Chambolle, Vosne, Nuits and Puligny. Today Jeremy and his wife Diana Snowden (herself from a prominent wine-making family in Napa) are largely responsible for the operations.

The winemaking has evolved. Jacques was famous for using 100% whole clusters and 100% new oak. Jeremy and Diana are the first to tell you that adaptation is key. The climate is changing dramatically in Burgundy, and every vintage presents new challenges. Stem use is between 20% and 100%, depending on the vintage and the vineyard. Same goes for oak use. On a visit there last spring Jeremy was excited to show us his concrete egg tanks that were aging the Puligny-Montrachets.

All of this is to say that this now storied Domaine is in very good hands as it heads into the future.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

BH 95
"Note: from a 1.57 ha parcel. An ultra-floral-suffused nose features airy aromas of mostly red berries and more discreet spice nuances. The highly energetic and beautifully detailed larger-bodied flavors possess excellent volume and minerality while delivering outstanding power and length on the tightly wound finale. Like the Combottes, Seysses indicated that the malo finished late and it shows as this is presently distinctly primary. *Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!*" -Allen Meadows

"The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru is another cuvée that suffered some reduction during its élevage. Despite that, the nose still has a little more density and fruit concentration, with a hint of Japanese nori in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweeter entry than the Beaux Monts. Candied orange peel notes commingle with touches of red cherry and strawberry fruit. It's a little spicy and strict on the finish. Excellent." -Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"The 2023 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts was another wine that underwent a rather late malolactic fermentation, but it was nonetheless showing extremely well, wafting from the glass with notes of cherries and cassis mingled with notions of exotic spices and burning embers. Medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, it's rich and fleshy, with sweet tannins and a long, expansive finish." -William Kelley
