What is this wine?
Domaine Dujac Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru 2023 (1.5L) is one of the crown jewels of the Côte de Nuits — a wine that epitomizes the grace and aromatic intensity of Morey-Saint-Denis. Founded in 1968 by Jacques Seysses, Domaine Dujac is now led by Jeremy, Alec, and Diana Snowden Seysses, who farm biodynamically and vinify with whole clusters and native yeasts. The Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru vineyard sits on thin, limestone-rich soils that produce wines of haunting perfume and silky texture. The 2023 vintage was defined by balance and purity, yielding wines of finesse and transparency.

Why get this wine?
Among Dujac’s legendary lineup, Clos Saint-Denis stands as the most ethereal — less muscular than Clos de la Roche, yet no less profound. The 2023 captures this vineyard’s hallmark delicacy and lift, framed by impeccable structure. In magnum, its potential for slow, graceful aging is unparalleled. For collectors seeking one of Burgundy’s most refined and ageworthy expressions of Pinot Noir, this is a true benchmark.

What does this wine taste like?
Elegant and deeply aromatic, with notes of wild cherry, raspberry, rose petal, and spice. The palate is pure and seamless, with silken tannins, mineral depth, and an endlessly perfumed finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Drink 2032–2050. Decant gently if opened young. Perfect with duck, pigeon, or truffled dishes. The magnum format ensures extraordinary longevity and evolution.

Even very casual consumers of Burgundy have likely heard of Domaine Dujac, considered one of the very best producers in Morey-Saint-Denis. This is a rather astounding fact given that the Domaine is only 50 years old, a blink in the eye given the region's winemaking history.

When Jacques Seysses purchased the estate of Marcel Graillet in 1967, it was in disrepair and had been selling fruit off in bulk for some years. In less then a decade he had invested heavily in the property and found customers for his domaine bottled wines. The Dujac name begin to be seen at top restaurants in France and beyond.

Fast forward 20 years and you have Jacques' sons, Alec and Jeremy, taking over the reigns of the now expanded Domaine, with holdings in Gevrey, Chambolle, Vosne, Nuits and Puligny. Today Jeremy and his wife Diana Snowden (herself from a prominent wine-making family in Napa) are largely responsible for the operations.

The winemaking has evolved. Jacques was famous for using 100% whole clusters and 100% new oak. Jeremy and Diana are the first to tell you that adaptation is key. The climate is changing dramatically in Burgundy, and every vintage presents new challenges. Stem use is between 20% and 100%, depending on the vintage and the vineyard. Same goes for oak use. On a visit there last spring Jeremy was excited to show us his concrete egg tanks that were aging the Puligny-Montrachets.

All of this is to say that this now storied Domaine is in very good hands as it heads into the future.

Burghound

"(from a 1.95 ha holding in 5 different climats). Here the expressive red and dark pinot fruit-suffused nose is once again wonderfully floral, indeed it's perfumed with a similar hint of dried orange peel. The punchy and powerful medium weight flavors are not especially concentrated yet there is a robust and decidedly tannic quality to the equally long finish that is already impressively complex. This is potentially great but be prepared to be patient. Drink: 2041+." -Allen Meadows

Antonio Galloni

"The 2023 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is much more rich and extravagant on the nose than the Clos Saint-Denis. Red plums, redcurrant and light rose petal scents are joined by potpourri with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with plush tannins and a fine bead of acidity. This is a lavish and sensual Clos de la Roche with an almost crystalline finish. Outstanding." -Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"The 2023 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is lovely, offering up complex aromas of dark berries, cherries, vine smoke, spices and orange zest. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and fleshy, with an open-knit, giving profile and a long, saline finish." -William Kelley
