What is this wine?
Domaine Dujac, founded in 1967 by Jacques Seysses and now run by the second generation, is one of Burgundy’s most esteemed domaines, known for extensive whole-cluster fermentation and wines of both perfume and structure. Clos Saint-Denis is a Grand Cru in Morey-Saint-Denis, often described as the most elegant and ethereal of the village’s grands crus, with limestone-rich soils giving finesse and aromatic lift. The 2015 vintage was warm and generous, yielding deeply concentrated, age-worthy wines of exceptional quality.

Why get this wine?
Dujac is one of the reference points for Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir, and Clos Saint-Denis is one of their crown jewels. The 2015 vintage, combining richness, depth, and balance, has already been hailed as one of Burgundy’s greatest modern years. This is a rare, collectible Grand Cru with decades of life ahead.

What does this wine taste like?
Red and black cherry, raspberry, and plum layered with rose petal, exotic spice, and forest floor. Silky and aromatic, with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a hauntingly long finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Best 2027–2050. Decant gently if drinking young. A natural partner for refined dishes such as squab, duck, or truffle risotto.

Even very casual consumers of Burgundy have likely heard of Domaine Dujac, considered one of the very best producers in Morey-Saint-Denis. This is a rather astounding fact given that the Domaine is only 50 years old, a blink in the eye given the region's winemaking history.

When Jacques Seysses purchased the estate of Marcel Graillet in 1967, it was in disrepair and had been selling fruit off in bulk for some years. In less then a decade he had invested heavily in the property and found customers for his domaine bottled wines. The Dujac name begin to be seen at top restaurants in France and beyond.

Fast forward 20 years and you have Jacques' sons, Alec and Jeremy, taking over the reigns of the now expanded Domaine, with holdings in Gevrey, Chambolle, Vosne, Nuits and Puligny. Today Jeremy and his wife Diana Snowden (herself from a prominent wine-making family in Napa) are largely responsible for the operations.

The winemaking has evolved. Jacques was famous for using 100% whole clusters and 100% new oak. Jeremy and Diana are the first to tell you that adaptation is key. The climate is changing dramatically in Burgundy, and every vintage presents new challenges. Stem use is between 20% and 100%, depending on the vintage and the vineyard. Same goes for oak use. On a visit there last spring Jeremy was excited to show us his concrete egg tanks that were aging the Puligny-Montrachets.

All of this is to say that this now storied Domaine is in very good hands as it heads into the future.

"The slightly exotic aromas of cassis, plum, earth, sandalwood, lavender and smoke possess a lovely purity and unusually good freshness in the context of this very ripe vintage. As is usually the case with this wine it's refined and sophisticated thanks to the fine-grained tannins shaping the middle weight flavors and wonderfully persistent finish. This is very classy and the balance is impeccable which should allow it to age effortlessly, which it very clearly is going to require." -Allen Meadows

"Bright, dark red. Perfumed but reticent aromas of raspberry and rose petal. Very pure but tightly wound, showing more red fruit lift than the Clos de la Roche but less showy today. A darker note of medicinal black cherry contributes to this young wine's serious mien. Less thick than the Clos de la Roche but still very 2015 in character. Finishes very long and floral, with firm but suave tannins. This wine calls for patience but I would not be surprised if it gave pleasure earlier than the Clos de la Roche." -Stephen Tanzer

"The 2015 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru was a bit more aromatically reserved, opening in the glass with notes of strawberry, briary berries, rose petal and subtle forest floor. On the palate, the wine is beautifully complete, with superb depth and dimension, lovely purity of fruit, satiny tannins that caress the mouth and a long, precise finish. It's hard to choose between this and the stunning Clos de la Roche, but while my bias is for the Clos Saint-Denis, my marginal preference in 2015 is for the former." -William Kelley

"Intriguing nose of raspberries with a touch of blackcurrant. Limpid attack, almost racy, zesty and refreshing despite the density and concentration. Airy and pungent, yet intense too, with obvious ageing potential. Long and stylish."
