Ramonet’s 2015 Les Ruchottes comes from a revered Premier Cru parcel on Chassagne’s upper slope, known for its stony soils and tension-driven Chardonnay. The domaine’s low yields and exacting cellar work preserve clarity and depth.

Fermented and aged in oak with restraint, the wine is full-bodied and structured, showing Ramonet’s hallmark balance of richness and mineral precision. A classic, cellar-worthy white.

There are dozens of excellent producers in Chassagne-Montrachet, but Domaine Ramonet is widely considered to be the best. That is quite remarkable given that the domaine is only three generations old (a spring chicken in Burgundy).

A young Pierre Ramonet first began buying small parcels of land in Chassagne in the late 1920s, when there were deals to be had. Today his grandsons Jean-Claude and Noel have been at the helm for over 30 years. They are expert farmers and winemakers and have the talent and experience needed to make magical Chardonnay.

"This was strongly reduced, indeed to the point that it was unpleasant and difficult to like, both on the nose and on the palate. On the plus side there is good density to the caressing yet powerful medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the slightly warm and mildly bitter finish. I gave this an extended aeration and it helped but like the Morgeot, it's not completely clear that this is going to grow out of what could generously be described as youthfully awkward. To be sure, there is excellent underlying material and given the excellent track record of this wine, I am inclined to offer the benefit of the doubt. But that's not a guarantee that this will eventually transform from an ugly duckling into a beautiful swan." -Allen Meadows

"The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Ruchottes 1er Cru has a seductive bouquet of almond, hazelnut, vanilla pod and white tea aromas, building beautifully in the glass over 45 minutes. The palate is, again, very seductive, with impressive depth. There is more creaminess in terms of texture than some purists would like, although it does possess the acidity to back it up. Delivering wonderful depth, great length, and touches of guava and a hint of praline toward the finish, this is a delicious Chassagne-Montrachet that is going to be difficult to resist." -Neal Martin

"The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Ruchottes doesn't attain the same heights as the 2014 rendition, but it has handled the warmth of the vintage very well and remains quite classic in profile, with a very typical bouquet of pear, iodine, wheat toast, buttered apples and a framing of new oak. On the palate, the wine is concentrated and full-bodied, with excellent amplitude and dimension, and a greater sense of reserve than any of the other 1er Crus in the cellar this year." -William Kelley

"A gorgeous white, round and full of lime blossom, white peach, baking spice and mineral flavors. Gets some lift from light tannins on the long, complex finish."
