Ramonet’s 2019 Les Ruchottes is a top Premier Cru from Chassagne’s upper slope, where thin soils over limestone yield Chardonnay of mineral intensity and structure. The domaine’s precise farming and restrained oak regimen shape a wine of clarity and depth.

Fermented and aged in oak, it balances ripe fruit and saline tension. A poised, age-worthy white from one of Ramonet’s most refined sites.

There are dozens of excellent producers in Chassagne-Montrachet, but Domaine Ramonet is widely considered to be the best. That is quite remarkable given that the domaine is only three generations old (a spring chicken in Burgundy).

A young Pierre Ramonet first began buying small parcels of land in Chassagne in the late 1920s, when there were deals to be had. Today his grandsons Jean-Claude and Noel have been at the helm for over 30 years. They are expert farmers and winemakers and have the talent and experience needed to make magical Chardonnay.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

"Here too there is ample petrol influence on the lightly wooded aromas of pear, apple, crushed anise and a whisper of resin character. There is fine volume, richness and power yet the mouthfeel of the medium weight plus flavors is at once powerful yet refined, all wrapped in a lightly stony, serious and youthfully austere finish. As is virtually always the case with this wine, it's presently quite tightly wound and while it could be approached after only 5-ish years, 10 would definitely be better." -Allen Meadows

"Muscular and powerful, the 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Ruchottes wafts from the glass with notes of pear, orange oil, peach, nutmeg and spices. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated, it's a rich, broad-shouldered Ruchottes that's quite demonstrative out of the gates." -William Kelley

"Intense, featuring toasty peach, apricot, butterscotch and hazelnut aromas and flavors. This white is inviting and balanced, with ample power and excellent length. Drink now through 2029."
