Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 95
"The 2019 Extra Brut Ludes Viellies Vignes from Pauline Collin Bérêche emerges from two hectares of vineyards in Ludes. The blend is 65% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 5% Petit Meslier, with the Pinot driving the wine's texture and overall presence. This really blossoms with time in the glass. Readers will find a Champagne built on textural resonance and vinous intensity. Aromatic high tones, from a very small touch of volatile acidity from vinification and aging in oak, and the Petit Meslier in the blend add an attractive upper register. The 2019 was finished with no dosage, although there is some residual sugar. This is a formidable debut." -Antonio Galloni

"The 2019 Ludes Vieilles Vignes marks the debut release from Pauline Collin-Bérêche. Sourced from two hectares of estate-owned, old vines in Ludes, close to the village itself, which thrive in somewhat deeper soils, this cuvée is predominantly composed of Pinot Noir, complemented by 30% Chardonnay and 5% Petit Meslier. Disgorged in July 2024 without dosage but featuring four grams per liter of residual sugar, the wine exudes aromas of ripe pear, freshly baked bread and dried flowers, mingling with subtle exotic nuances. It presents as medium- to full-bodied, with an ample and textural profile, balanced by tangy acidity and with a nicely defined, mineral finish. The wine was vinified in second-hand 450-liter barrels sourced from a Meursault winemaker." -Kristaps Karklins
