What is this wine?
Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier, based in Chambolle-Musigny, is one of Burgundy’s most revered domaines, producing Pinot Noir of haunting finesse and purity. Les Fuées is a premier cru vineyard that borders the Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares, sharing its mineral depth but retaining Chambolle’s trademark perfume and silkiness. The 2019 vintage was outstanding across Burgundy, yielding ripe, concentrated wines with superb balance and long-term cellaring potential.

Why get this wine?
Mugnier’s wines are among the most sought-after in the world, with tiny production and a cult following. Les Fuées offers near–grand cru pedigree at the premier cru level, combining site brilliance with Mugnier’s feather-light touch. The 2019 vintage, with its richness and energy, makes this a particularly collectible bottling.

What does this wine taste like?
Vivid red cherry, raspberry, and strawberry with rose petal, spice, and chalky minerality. Medium-bodied yet concentrated, with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, perfumed finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Best 2026–2042. Decant if drinking young. Excellent with refined dishes such as duck breast, squab, or truffle risotto.

JF (Freddy) Mugnier needs no introduction to Burgundy fanatics: for several decades now he has been crafting some of the finest examples of Chambolle ever made. A quiet and thoughtful person, his wines mirror the grace and charm that Freddy exudes. A visit to the Chateau Chambolle to chat and taste with him is easily one of the highlights of any of our wine travels.

All of Freddy's Chambolle offerings are the pinnacle of their appellations.

Burghound

"A much spicier and less earthy mix offers up notes of red and blue pinot fruit, plum and hints of anise and violet. The mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is even sleeker and more mineral-driven as well with excellent intensity that possess an interesting finish that is at once youthfully austere yet vaguely sweet. This beautifully persistent effort is more firmly structured and should age accordingly." -Allen Meadows

"The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has a more floral bouquet, with stewed black tea infusing the red fruit, but the aromatics seem to become rather diffuse in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and, much like Bichot’s Les Chabiots, it falls short of the expectations delivered by the nose. Sweet red fruit, Kirsch and licorice linger, but there is a slightly jarring green element that keeps nagging away, implying the presence of a few bunches that did not reach phenolic ripeness. That may well be assimilated with bottle age. I’ll be prudent for now. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting." -Neal Martin

"The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées soars from the glass with aromas of raspberries and blackberries mingled with notions of peony, warm spices, orange rind and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, it's rich and seamless, with a concentrated core of fruit, lively acids and a long, saline finish. This is a touch more reserved out of the gates than its communal counterpart, but all the potential it showed from barrel is clearly apparent." -William Kelley

"Unracked cask sample. Very juicy and big and almost brawny in comparison with the village wine. Real grip on the palate. Much more long-term wine than the village Chambolle with an edge of ferny undergrowth. For the moment it’s a little strict. Only medium weight."
