E. Guigal’s La Landonne, introduced in 1978, is sourced from the steep, iron-rich slopes of Côte Brune and made entirely from Syrah. The 1981 vintage reflects the early years of this now-iconic cuvée, crafted with long maceration and aging in new oak for depth and longevity.

Structured and powerful, the 1981 stands out for its brooding character and firm backbone. It’s a foundational vintage in the rise of Guigal’s single-vineyard Côte-Rôties.

Left Northern Rhone

This is a must-know producer, primarily because they produce about 1/3 of the AOC’s wines through both contracts and their own holdings. They are also hugely important for the historical reasons mentioned above. With their “La La’s” – the three single vineyard wines they release called La Landonne, La Turque and La Mouline – they have produced vintage after vintage of monumental wines that have won top praise in the international press.
