The entire Poggio Antico property, villas, winery, vineyards and more, sits near the top of a hill, just a couple miles south of the village. It’s one of the highest elevation estates in Tuscany, but it is also easily accessible to visitors of all types. Many casual wine lovers who visit Montalcino find themselves enjoying Poggio Antico while taking in some excellent views.Perhaps the focus on wine tourism the past couple of decades has occasionally detracted from the wines themselves, but that has been changing too. The farming has been practicing organic for almost 10 years and will be certified soon. Though they continue to use innovative methods in the winery, the focus has increasingly shifted to producing, classic, old-school expressions of Sangiovese.
