Chassagne-Montrachet is overwhelmingly known for white Burgundy, which makes its reds an insider's secret. This Premier Cru Pinot Noir comes from the historic Clos Saint Jean vineyard, farmed by the Pillot family since Paul took over the domaine in 1968. Now in its fourth generation under Thierry Pillot, the estate has converted fully to organic viticulture, uses large-format casks (350 and 500 liters), and bottles unfiltered. The 2020 vintage—one of Burgundy's hottest and driest since 1945—produced concentrated, vibrant reds with excellent structure.

Thierry Pillot is killing it! He is a super-talented vigneron, and since he has taken over his family's domain the quality has gone through the roof. He is one of those rare characters who is equally good at making red and white wines.

They have 13 hectares of vines in the domaine, 1/3 red and 2/3 white. The whites are very concentrated because of the frost and the reds are supple and elegant, really classic. Like many young vignerons, Thierry has also set up a micro-negociant under his own name.
