For lovers of the Northern Rhone Auguste Clape needs zero introduction. Even those less familiar with the slopes along the river where Syrah reigns supreme have often heard the name. Clape is that important.

He almost single-handedly brought his home village of Cornas out of the old, négociant-centered model and into the estate-focused 21st Century. A former mayor of Cornas, his name is now synonymous with the best of what this village has to offer.

August sadly passed in 2018 after nearly fifty years of winemaking, leaving the iconic estate in the hands of his son and grandson.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 89
"The classic 2023 Côtes du Rhône begins with hints of black olive, black cherry, pencil shaving and spicy dimensions. Medium-bodied, round and refreshing, the strait-laced 2023 caps off with notable elegance on the smooth finish. Drink 2025-2030." -Nicolas Greinacher

Robert Parker

RP 91
"Notes of dark cherries and dark wild berries mingled with flowers and violet preface the 2023 Côtes du Rhône from Clape, a moderately weighted, round and supple wine with a juicy character, elegant tannins and a long, floral and mouthwatering finish. Crafted from 50- to 60-year-old vines planted in sandy, granite soils, this is a nice, classic rendition." -Yohan Castaing
