One of the original domaines to begin bottling themselves (back in the 1940s), Roumier quickly moved into the very top tier of Burgundy producers. Specialists in Chambolle Musigny, they produced some of the most achingly pure and elegant wines from anywhere, and consequently the demand for their small production is enormous. Roumier's wines are strictly allocated, and we only occasionally acquire sufficient quantities to post online, so be sure to grab bottles when you see them!

Professional Reviews

Burghound

BH 94
"From a 1.75 ha parcel of vines averaging 40+ years of age. This is also attractively perfumed with a similar liqueur-like quality to the spicier dark berry fruit nose that is nuanced by hints of wet stone and exotic tea. There is a bit more volume, and certainly more minerality, to the solidly concentrated medium-bodied flavors that possess a refreshing sense of verve that carries over to the youthfully austere, firm and built-to-age finale. The Roumier Cras virtually always ages well and the 2023 version should be no exception but in contrast to the Clos de la Bussières and Les Combottes, it's a wine that's going to require at least mid-term keeping first."

"The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has a mineral-laden bouquet that suffuses its effervescent black fruit. There is plenty of energy here. The palate is very harmonious on the entry, a little crunchy in texture and more saline than the Les Combottes with a long, slightly peppery finish courtesy of the 70% whole bunch. Excellent." -Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras wafts from the glass with a rich bouquet of wild berries, violets, exotic spices and baking chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, suave and layered, it's ripe but balanced, with sweet structuring tannins and a mineral finish." -William Kelley

"Cask sample. Mid ruby. Red fruits, red cherries and redcurrants. Quite supple and open with high-toned acidity. Some undergrowth burgundian complexity too."
