What is this wine?
Closerie du Chêne is a small-production estate within the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. The Christiana cuvée is Merlot-dominant, blended with Cabernet Franc and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on clay-limestone soils typical of the region. The 2018 vintage was excellent in Saint-Émilion: warm and sunny, producing ripe, plush wines with balanced structure and freshness.
Why get this wine?
This is artisanal Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, crafted in a modern yet balanced style. With its supple fruit, polished tannins, and touch of oak spice, it delivers the pleasure of Right Bank Bordeaux at a price far below the region’s blue-chip châteaux. Christiana 2018 offers both approachability now and the structure to age.
What does this wine taste like?
Black cherry, plum, and blackberry with notes of cocoa, cedar, and baking spice. Medium to full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, elegant finish.
When should you drink this wine?
Delicious now with a decant, but best 2024–2032. Pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck breast, or mushroom dishes.
