This is the wine that put New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc on the global map. When Cloudy Bay's first vintages hit shelves in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the explosive passionfruit, grapefruit, and freshly cut grass aromatics were a revelation — and they essentially defined what Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc meant. Now part of the LVMH stable, Cloudy Bay remains the reference template: bright, juicy, herbaceous, and instantly recognizable. The 2024 blends fruit from many small Wairau Valley parcels, mostly stainless-fermented with a touch of oak and wild yeast for added complexity. Crisp, classic, and as crowd-pleasing as ever.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

"The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc has an addition to its label—the 40th vintage. Yes, it was 40 years since the first Cloudy Bay Sauvignon burst onto the scene. Now, it’s a much bigger operation covering more than 400 hectares, but it still maintains its exclusivity. This sweetly fruited expression offers all that juicy tropical flavor we've come to expect from Marlborough, with layers of green capsicum and elderflower coursing through its mid-palate. It is silky and balanced, with succulent flesh built through its core and a line of fresh, drawn-out acidity keeping this going on the medium-length finish." —Rebecca Gibb MW

"Full screwcapped bottle 1,377 g. The fortieth vintage of this famous wine, whose debut vintage was 1985. Extremely dry summer required regular irrigation but produced healthy fruit with an early harvest. Free-run juice was cold-settled before fermentation all in tank except for 1.5% fermented warmer in large oak. A portion saw spontaneous fermentation. 55 of 81 possible ingredients went into this blend. A powerfully pungent nose that could only be Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. It is very powerful, with lots of vibrant green-fruit flavours. Just off-dry. No that long but lots of impact on the nose and palate entry." —Jancis Robinson MW
