What is this wine?
Domaine des Comtes Lafon, based in Meursault, is one of Burgundy’s most revered domaines, famed for benchmark white wines and increasingly for exceptional reds. From their holdings in Monthélie, just north of Meursault, the 1er Cru Les Duresses is a Pinot Noir grown on steep, east-facing limestone-clay slopes. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was generous, producing ripe yet balanced wines with expressive fruit and supple tannins.
Why get this wine?
While Lafon’s Meursaults and Volnays are legendary, their Monthélie reds remain one of the greatest insider values in the portfolio. Les Duresses combines Lafon’s precision with the terroir’s natural minerality and structure, resulting in a wine that over-delivers for its appellation. It’s a smart buy for Burgundy lovers seeking pedigree without premier cru Côte de Nuits pricing.
What does this wine taste like?
Bright red cherry, raspberry, and cranberry with floral notes, spice, and a mineral backbone. Medium-bodied with fine tannins, lively acidity, and a long, elegant finish.
When should you drink this wine?
Drink 2025–2035. Decant young bottles. Excellent with roast chicken, duck breast, mushroom dishes, or soft cheeses.
