Les Santenots du Milieu has long been considered to be the tete de cuvee of the Santenot appellation. The parcel faces east on shallow heavy red clay above a subsoil of limestone. The wines are deep in color, rich, tannins are present, but lovely and elegant on the end of the palate. Black fruit aromas dominate: blackberry, blackcurrant and cherry. More powerful than most of the Volnays, it is a wine to keep for a long time (10 to 20 years).
