Vincent Dureuil-Janthial sources his Bourgogne Blanc from old-vine Chardonnay in “La Combe,” a Puligny-Montrachet lieu-dit planted in the 1950s and 60s. Farmed organically, the site sits on classic clay-limestone soils and is treated with the same care as his top Rully parcels.

The 2022 is whole-cluster pressed, fermented with native yeasts in barrel (20% new), and aged 12 months in oak, then 6 more in tank. A Puligny-inflected Bourgogne Blanc with tension and depth.

Dureuil-Janthial is a star producer in the Côte Chalonnaise, a region of Burgundy that is often underappreciated. Just south of the Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise has the same soil composition as its more celebrated northern neighbor. However, mechanized farming and a more industrial approach to winemaking marked the region for much of recent history. Vincent-Dureuil-Janthial became an exception to that rule almost instantly when he took over his family’s winery in 1994 at the young age of 24. He went against the grain by converting his vineyards to organic farming and by eschewing the machines and instead opting for hand harvesting.

His hard work paid off and now he is known as an exceptional winemaker around the world for both his reds and his whites. Such a double-threat is a rarity in Burgundy. Jean-François Coche once gave them the ultimate endorsement when he said that if he spots Dureuil-Janthial on a wine list, he always buys their wine.

"The 2022 Bourgogne Blanc comes from vines in Puligny by Vincent's grandfather Maurice Dureuil and is matured in 20% new oak. The neutral nose takes time to open in the glass, with touches of lime and fresh citrus fruit. The medium-bodied palate has a wonderful texture, a very good body, and depth, growing quite lively with a dab of lemongrass on the finish. As good a regional white as you will find." -Neal Martin
