What is this wine?
Egly-Ouriet Champagne Extra Brut “Les Prémices” NV is the most accessible cuvée from Francis Egly, one of Champagne’s most revered grower-producers. The wine comes from organically farmed vineyards in the village of Trigny, north of Reims, and is a blend of roughly 50% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay, and 20% Pinot Noir. Like all Egly-Ouriet Champagnes, it’s fermented with native yeasts in oak barrels, allowed full malolactic fermentation, and aged extensively on the lees — about four years — before disgorgement. Bottled with minimal dosage, it reflects Egly’s hallmark precision and depth while offering a fresher, more approachable style.
Why get this wine?
“Les Prémices” showcases the Egly-Ouriet signature — richness, texture, and chalky minerality — in a more immediately enjoyable and attractively priced format. It’s an ideal introduction to the estate’s artistry: powerful yet pure, crafted with the same care and time as their Grand Cru bottlings. This is serious grower Champagne that drinks far above its tier.
What does this wine taste like?
