no dosage, mineral and tense style. A few go for a bit more power and something with a little oxidative quality, a la Selosse. We love them both. But what if you want something more luxurious and textural, a more golden style? Something sort of like, well . . . Krug? The answer then, is Champagne Eric Rodez. Eric and his wife Martine are the stewards of estate that has been producing Champagne in the village of Ambonnay for over 250 years. Indeed they are so tied to the village that Eric was the mayor for several years, until 2014. Now joined by their son Mickaël, they have quietly kept up the long tradition of excellence. Farming is organic with biodynamic principles employed on their 9 hectares of Pinot Noir and 7 of Chardonnay. In the cellar they use large percentages of reserve wines to achieve the elegant, vinous style that they are known for. Eric is a master at blending older vintages into his wines, something he learned during his days as the winemaker at Krug. Yes, the Krug connection is no coincidence!
