"Here the restrained nose grudgingly offer up a more floral-suffused nose that combines notes of petrol and citrus with those of apple and pear compote. There is excellent volume to the caressing yet markedly punchy medium-bodied flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the balanced, focused and impressively persistent finale. This is a wine of contrasts as the almost delicate mid-palate is quite different from the powerful and notably firm finale. This too could use better depth but like the Folatières, the Sauzet Combettes is justly known for its aging prowess." -Allen Meadows

"The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru is nuanced and complex on the nose, with a mixture of yellow and white fruit, crushed stone and a faint oatmeal touch. It shows wonderful delineation and focus. The oak is nicely integrated here, though it is much more understated than Carillon's Les Combettes. The palate is well-balanced with a sheen of new oak that is perfectly proportionate to the fruit intensity underneath. Again, quite a spicy, almost peppery finish leaves the tongue tingling long after the wine has exited. Fresh and saline, this is a marvelous Les Combettes that should age well in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting." -Neal Martin

"The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is excellent, offering up aromas of stone fruits, pear, pastry cream, white flowers and fresh croissants, followed by a full-bodied, rich and textural palate, with a broad attack that segues into a layered, multidimensional palate. Powerful and broad shouldered, but nicely balanced, this is a compelling wine from Sauzet." -William Kelley

"Cask sample. Very attractive. Stony characters allied with some peach fruit. Lovely purity here. Complex, zesty, mineral notes to finish. Top-end Puligny."
