François Bertheau’s Les Amoureuses comes from a 0.32 ha parcel in Chambolle’s most prized Premier Cru. The 2020 vintage balances ripeness with precision, shaped by a restrained élevage using just 20% new oak.

Bertheau’s approach emphasizes purity and texture. This is Pinot Noir with lifted perfume, supple structure, and quiet depth—a subtle but serious expression of site.

These wines of Domaine Francois Bertheau gain in stature every year and the tiny amounts that come into the U.S. are very sought after. These old fashioned wines are reminiscent of the great wines of Jacky Truchot - great purity and focus with lots of mouthweight or "matiere grasse".

Francois Bertheau took over from his father Pierre 13 years ago and the wines - which have always been very good - are now even better. He is a meticulous grape grower. He uses a maximum of 20% new oak, usually 10% or less.

This is an elite Chambolle domaine on a par with the unaffordable superstars of this extraordinary village on the Cote D'Or.
