The Grosjean family has been farming the Valle d'Aosta since it was French territory, but it was only in the 1960s that Dauphin Grosjean (can you get more French with a name like that?) decided to turn the family's house wine, for family consumption, into a career. He began in earnest in 1969, and since 1975 only sustainable and organic farming practices have been used.
Dauphin's sons now run the estate, and are focused on producing gorgeous wines, made with integrity.
What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...
A Burgundian native, Grosjeanโs Valdรดtain Gamay comes from the valleyโs steep, south-facing upper slopes in the villages of Quart, Saint Christophe and Villeneuve. An excellent partner to traditional charcuterie, including salami, motzetta and thinly sliced lard, along with traditional Aosta soups. Four to five days of maceration followed by aging in stainless steel, Grosjeanโs example is always well balanced, fruit-forward, lightly tannic and fresh with abundant aromatics.
