Pierre Gimonnet et Fils is one of the true masters of Chardonnay in Champagne, crafting wines of remarkable elegance and precision from their Premier and Grand Cru holdings in the Côte des Blancs. Led by Didier Gimonnet, the estate champions a style that emphasizes purity, tension, and the natural brilliance of old-vine Chardonnay. Sélection Belles Années is a classic Blanc de Blancs sourced from 1er Cru vineyards in Cuis, Vertus, and Cramant, blending multiple vintages to achieve balance and complexity. Fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel to preserve freshness, the wine undergoes extended lees aging before disgorgement, contributing to its depth and creamy texture.

Lively and focused, this cuvée opens with aromas of green apple, lemon zest, and white flowers, underpinned by a distinct chalky minerality. The palate is taut and precise, offering layers of crisp pear, citrus pith, and hints of fresh almonds, all carried by a fine, persistent mousse. Gimonnet’s hallmark is balance—bright acidity is seamlessly integrated with the wine’s natural richness, leading to a long, refreshing finish with subtle pastry notes emerging as it unfolds in the glass. A moderate dosage of around 6 g/L enhances its clarity without overshadowing the wine’s tension and vibrancy.

A textbook Blanc de Blancs with both finesse and verve, Sélection Belles Années is a versatile food companion. It pairs beautifully with oysters, ceviche, and fresh goat cheese but also has enough depth to complement richer dishes like butter-poached lobster or roasted chicken with citrus. This is an essential Champagne for lovers of mineral-driven, terroir-expressive Chardonnay—precise, elegant, and unmistakably Gimonnet.

Pierre Gimonnet, a top Grower in the Cotes des Blancs, who helped to found the The Club Trésors, back in the early 1970s. Nearly 50 years later, the Gimonnet family is still one of their benchmark producers. These wines embody everything we love about Champagne from the Côte des Blancs, especially Cramant. The Gimonnet style is luxurious, but still quite nervy and exciting. There is toasty brioche, sure, but also soaring acidity and lovely, yellow fruit. And the wines are long-lived as demonstrated by many 20+ year old wines we've been lucky to taste.

"This release of the Selection des Belles Années, based on 2013, is brisk and expressive, with an alluring combination of energy and richness. In the glass, the Belles Années is a touch compact, but a bit of bottle age should help. Wonderfully persistent and inviting, the Belles Années has so much to offer. This release is 80% 2013 Gastronome, with 20% reserve wines. Dosage is 5.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: July 19, 2018." -Vinous

"A rich and creamy Champagne defined by lively acidity, with anise, pastry cream and salted almond notes, and fruit flavors of baked apricot and lemon curd. Minerally finish."

"A blending of recent good vintages, this young-tasting Champagne is at the delicious fruit stage. It is crisp, citrus-flavored and bright with fruitiness. As it develops, the more mineral texture will come through, giving a richer, impressive wine that retains a zesty character. Ideally wait a few months after purchase before drinking."
