Chalk is the name of the game at Champagne Robert Moncuit โ€” hardly a surprise, considering the many plots they own, in some of the most esteemed parcels of the Cรดte des Blancs.
They've got a 2 hectare plot in Mesnil's Les Chรฉtillons, a vineyard made famous by Pierre Peters (although you'd need a good deal of luck, and deep pockets, to find a bottle of that particular wine). The key element to this site's distinct minerality? You guessed it โ€” chalk.

To better harness the incredible terroir they have, the family chooses to vinify all cuvรฉes entirely in stainless steel and neutral oak, as they feel anything else would muddy the bright and fresh minerality.

The estate was founded in the late 19th century, but has only been imported stateside since 2000. From their top bottlings to his entry level cuvรฉes, Robert Moncuit is one of our favorite growers.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 92
"Moncuitโ€™s 2017 Extra Brut Les Vozรฉmieux emerges from a site in Oger. Vinification in barrel fills out the contours nicely. Vinous and resonant, the 2017 is an excellent choice for readers who enjoy Champagnes with a bit of the complexity found in older wines. Dried flowers, spice, chamomile, tangerine peel and light pastry notes all build in the glass. Bottled with no dosage." -Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

RP 93
"Sourced from two north-facing plots within the same lieu-dit in Oger, the 2017 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vozรฉmieux, defined by its meter-deep clay topsoil, is one of the more demonstrative, fruit-forward wines in the cellar. Compared to Les Chรฉtillons and Clos des Auges, which sit almost directly on chalk, Vozรฉmieux delivers a rounder, slightly more ample wine. Framed by maturation in barrels previously used by producers in Chassagne-Montrachet and Maranges, it soars from the glass with a bouquet of elderflower, brioche, pine nut and pear. Medium to full-bodied, enveloping and laden with ripe but vibrant acids, it is a more generous edition compared to the 2016." -Kristaps Karklins
