What is this wine?
Torre dei Beati is a family-run, organically farmed estate in Loreto Aprutino, Abruzzo. Founded in 1999 by Adriana Galasso and Fausto Albanesi, the domaine quickly became one of the region’s benchmarks for Montepulciano. Their Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is sourced from hillside vineyards with calcareous-clay soils at 250–300 meters. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in large neutral oak, it’s a pure and balanced expression of the grape. The 2022 vintage brought warm, healthy conditions, producing generous but fresh wines.

Why get this wine?
This is a reference-point Montepulciano: organically grown, artisan-crafted, and consistently ranked among the best values in central Italy. It offers depth and authenticity far above the region’s mass-market bottlings, making it both a reliable everyday red and a smart introduction to serious Abruzzo wine.

What does this wine taste like?
Juicy blackberry, black cherry, and plum with hints of violet, licorice, and spice. Medium to full-bodied with supple tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, savory finish. Balanced between fruit richness and earthy complexity.

When should you drink this wine?
Drink now through 2028. Versatile at the table: pair with pizza, pasta with ragù, roasted meats, or aged cheeses.

Torre Dei Beati

Torre dei Beati’s next door neighbor is arguably the most famous wine grower in Abruzzo (arguably Italy’s most famous region for gastronomic delights) — Eduardo Valentini. If you can even find a bottle of Valentini, you’ll walk away from the experience your wallet a bit lighter.

Fortunately, Torre dei Beati offers a range of classic Abruzzese wines from similar terroir for far less. The estate is certified organic, not so common in this part of Italy, and a combination of elevation and clay-limestone soils ensure delicacy and elegance. The goal is to produce classic, gastronomic wines with a real sense of place.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 92
"The animalistic 2022 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo smolders up with mentholated herbal tones and a dusting of cocoa powder before giving way to dried black cherry and violet pastille aromas. It's round and soft in texture, with saturating red and blue fruits. A core of brisk acidity maintains fantastic balance. This finishes gently tannic and long, with a twang of bitter dark chocolate under an air of lavender. The 2022 makes for a wonderful introduction to the Torre dei Beati style." -Eric Guido
