Vincent Dancer is a top winemaker in Chassagne-Montrachet. His family name is a great description of his wines. They are muscular, taught and sometimes downright powerful. But they are also precise, elegant and beautifully poised. Effortlessly balanced.
Less than a decade ago Dancer's wines were first brought to the U.S. and those of us lucky enough to try them then were immediately impressed. This wasn't wine with potential, it was wine of intrinsic greatness.
In 1996 Vincent moved from his childhood home in Alsace to take over some family vineyards. The first thing he focused on was farming, becoming the first certified organic producer in Chassagne-Montrachet. His attention to detail in the vineyards has brought on a label of "perfectionist."
In the cellar he is deliberate and, of course, does everything with a goal of exquisite balance. His holdings are small so the wines were always quite limited. But given their growing popularity and recent low yields, they have become downright scarce.
