First Pour: The Inaugural Edition, March 2025

Dear Friends,

We’re excited to introduce First Pour, your new monthly guide to everything happening in our shop—from curated tastings and expert-led seminars to the latest arrivals of exceptional wines and spirits. Each edition will give you an inside look at what’s new, what’s special, and what’s worth discovering, all designed to help you explore the world of fine beverages with confidence and curiosity. Whether you’re a longtime collector, an adventurous sipper, or just starting to refine your palate, First Pour will be your go-to resource for upcoming experiences, exclusive releases, and expert insights.

And we’re kicking things off in style: March is Sake Month at Flatiron Wines San Francisco. This month, every Thursday our Wine Bar Tastings will be dedicated to the art, tradition, and craft of sake. Each week, we’ll feature a rotating selection of exceptional sakes, expertly guided by a certified sake specialist alongside an award-winning importer who has spent years curating some of the most sought-after bottles from Japan. You’ll learn about different sake styles, discover how factors like rice polishing and fermentation techniques shape flavor, and taste a lineup that showcases the depth and diversity of this fascinating category. Whether you’re a dedicated sake lover or simply sake-curious, these tastings are a rare opportunity to experience premium selections in an engaging and approachable setting.

Beyond our tastings, we’re also refreshing our in-store sake selection to align with the season, bringing in an exciting mix of new arrivals, rare and allocated bottlings, and producers that we’ve never carried before. As winter fades and we move toward spring, this is the perfect time to explore sake that complements both cozy, warming meals and the fresh, vibrant flavors of the coming season. If you’re looking for something unique to add to your collection—or simply want a few expert recommendations—our team is ready to guide you through this evolving selection.

Scroll down for the full schedule of our sake tastings and upcoming ticketed seminars, and mark your calendar—these are experiences you won’t want to miss. Reservations for ticketed events are now open, and space is limited, so be sure to secure your spot in advance. We can’t wait to share these incredible selections with you.

SEMINARS

An evening with Athénaïs Berú of Château de Béru

For over 400 years, Château de Béru has been home to some of Chablis’ most distinctive terroirs, including the famed Clos Béru, a walled vineyard with limestone-rich soils that have produced exceptional wines since the 11th century. Once nearly lost to history, the estate was revived under the visionary leadership of Athénaïs de Béru, who has transformed it into a beacon of organic and biodynamic viticulture. Her commitment to low-intervention winemaking and sustainability has elevated Château de Béru into one of Burgundy’s most exciting domaines, crafting Chardonnays that are pure, precise, and deeply expressive.

This special seminar offers a rare chance to taste a curated selection of limited-production wines, including bottlings that highlight the estate’s terroir-driven style. Expect an intimate, thought-provoking evening as Athénaïs shares her journey, from restoring her family’s vineyards to redefining what Chablis can be. With just a few seats remaining, now is the time to secure your spot!
