H. Billiot Fils Champagne Brut Grand Cru Ambonnay Reserve NV

$4999

H. Billiot Fils is a family-run estate in Ambonnay, one of Champagne’s greatest Grand Cru villages for Pinot Noir. Their *Brut Reserve* is a Pinot Noir-dominant blend that showcases the power and finesse of this exceptional terroir. Fermented in stainless steel and aged extensively on the lees, this cuvée offers both richness and vibrancy.

The nose bursts with red berries, dried cherries, and spice, layered with hints of toast and chalk. The palate is full and structured, revealing flavors of ripe apple, citrus peel, and a long, mineral-infused finish.

A wonderful companion to charcuterie, roasted meats, or aged cheeses, *Brut Reserve* is a Grand Cru Champagne with bold character and depth.

"A pungent nose blends plenty of petrol character with those of brioche, yeast, Meyer lemon and green apple. I was impressed with the excellent complexity of the utterly delicious and solidly concentrated flavors that are shaped by a moderately fine and firm mousse, all wrapped in a lingering and sappy finish that walks a fine line between not being particularly dry yet avoids any hint of sweetness. This full-flavored effort will most please those who enjoy bold Champagne rather than those of finesse and refinement." —Allen Meadows

"Broad and yeasty on the nose. Rich but dry tasting and very crisp acidity. Powerful and refined at the same time. Has drive and length and impressive intensity. Mouth-wateringly fresh finish."

"This shows lovely integration overall, marrying sleek acidity and a finely detailed mousse to flavors of dried apricot, toasted almond and spice box, with the tension to keep this lingering on the long finish of candied pink grapefruit zest. Disgorged June 2017."

More about H. Billiot Fils

Lateitia, one of only a few Champagne vignerons runs this small estate started by her great-grandfather. All of the fruit comes from the Grand Cru site of Ambonnay, known for powerful, vinuos Pinot Noir. Most of the wines are fermented in stainless steel and malolactic fermentation is blocked to retain the racy acidity needed for a balanced structure.
