Martine & Christian Rouchier VdF Puat 2019

The rarest whisper from Domaine Rouchier's tiny 1.5-hectare estate: Puat, a co-harvest and co-vinification of 80% Syrah and 20% Chasselas fermented together in old oak. The white grapes bring ethereal floral character and freshness to temper the Syrah's sunny power—white pepper, mint, fresh herbs, crushed peppercorns, and perfumed raspberry emerge from natural winemaking without added sulfur. Organic since 2010 and fully biodynamic by 2013, with only 0.14 hectares of this cuvée produced.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

More about Martine & Christian Rouchier

One of the most exciting and under the radar producers that we've recently discovered has to be the tiny domaine of Martine and Christian Rouchier. Farming 1.5 hectares in Ardeche (the heart of the St. Joseph appellation), the Rouchier's once only sold grapes to larger negociants, but that changed in 2010 when Martine decided she wanted to convert everything over to organic and biodynamic farming.

This process was completed in 2013, and we're shocked at the quality of their "start-up" wines. Moving beyond just organic and biodynamic in the vineyard, since 2015 all the wines are made completely naturally in the cellar as well with no added sulfur.

The result is what we want all our Syrah's to taste like. Complex and wild and meaty, but with a certain floral elegance and lift to it all. Think Herve Souhaut meets Jean Michel Stephan, with a purity of fruit and focus that is unique to Rouchier.
