A serious rose from Austria's three main varieties Blaufrankisch, Sankt Laurent and Zweigelt. Mature vines (up to 45 years old) grown on gravel and schist soils in the villages of Frauenkirchen and Jois. Biodynamically farmed, hand-harvested and minimal intervention in the cellar are signatures of Umathum, a solar-powered winery that mixes traditional craft and modern philosophy. This saignee is aged in stainless steel tank accentuating the Rosa's wonderful raspberry and cherry fruit characteristics. Not only is this wine perfect for summertime sipping but it also ages beautifully making it a perfect fall food pairing option.

Josef Umathum is a top winemaker in Austriaโ€™s Burgenland region who is known as a champion of the local varieties, especially Blaufrรคnkisch and Zweigelt. He was also an early proponent of biodynamic viticulture and has converted all 60 hectares of the estate to said practices.

Josef is such a meticulous farmer and steward that he keeps a โ€œlibraryโ€ of the various clonal varieties he farms in a small plot behind the winery. He also does things differently in the cellar than most of his neighbors, which includes adding stems back into the fermentation tanks for his red wines.

"The 2023 Rosa is a blend of roughly a third each of Zweigelt, Blaufrรคnkisch and Sankt Laurent, bled off from the red ferments of these varieties. Its hue is thus deeper and far more red than pink. Subtle yeasty reduction on the nose dissipates to present a juicy strawberry compote note on a smooth, mellow body with a beautiful frame of freshness and slight tannins.
