A Nebbiolo MVP from terrific Alpine terroir, and one of our all-time favorites: Sperino's Uvaggio gives you the real thing from Alto Piemonte without the fuss or price of a high-end Barolo or Barbaresco. The house recipe is mostly Nebbiolo with a little Vespolina and Croatina, from organically farmed vines in Lessona plus two hectares of the Madonna degli Angeli vineyard in Bramaterra. The two sites couldn't be more different. Lessona sits on an ancient seabed of acidic marine sand at 290–350 meters. Bramaterra is pebbles over igneous rock veined with china clay, a little higher at 350–420 meters. Sperino bottled its last vintage in 1904 and then went quiet for a century, until Paolo and Luca de Marchi brought it back with a first vintage in 2004. The 'basic' wine that steals our hearts every vintage.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

Soft contours wrap around red/purplish fruit, dried herbs, rose petal, blood orange, mint and white pepper. This is an especially generous style, but it all works so well. Tasting Profile

Medium-bodied and elegant, with a clear mineral streak. In this blend the Vespolina usually adds a spicy, balsamic snap and the Croatina a slightly creamy finish.
