An evening with Ar.Pe.Pe. with Isabella Pelizzatti Perego - 11/10/2026

We could not be happier to welcome Isabella Pelizzatti Perego of Ar.Pe.Pe. for a seated tasting on Tuesday, November 10th at 5:30pm. If you care about Nebbiolo, this is the one.

Valtellina runs east to west along the Adda in the far north of Lombardy, a wall of terraced vineyards facing south across the valley with the Alps behind. Nebbiolo has been grown on those terraces for centuries — they call it Chiavennasca here — and the work is done almost entirely by hand, on stone walls built up the mountainside. The wines it gives are unlike any other Nebbiolo in Italy: lighter on their feet, higher toned, perfumed and savory, and startlingly long-lived.

No estate has made that case more convincingly than Ar.Pe.Pe. The name is an acronym of Arturo Pelizzatti Perego, who in 1984 reclaimed a portion of his family’s historic vineyards and the old Buon Consiglio aging cellars and started again — a return to origins rather than a new project. The house holds to long macerations, large old wood, and extended aging before release, at a moment when much of Italy was moving the other way. Today Arturo’s children run the estate, and Isabella joins us to pour and talk through five wines.

And the five are beautifully chosen. We open with two 2022s, Grumello and Sassella side by side, to put the subzones against each other while they’re young and unguarded. Then the estate’s Inferno in 2019, with a few years on it. And finally two 2016 Riservas — Sassella “Rocce Rosse” and Inferno “Sesto Canto,” the latter made only in exceptional years — which return to the same ground as the first three wines, a decade on.

That’s the real gift of this flight. You taste Sassella young and then as a Riserva; you taste Inferno in two different guises from the same hillside. Geography and time in a single sitting, with someone who grew up among these vineyards to walk you through it.
