Andrea's story is not uncommon for those of his generation who come from humble farmers of wine grapes. When he was young he left the farm in la Morra to take a job as truck driver, but then returned in 1978 when his father unexpectedly passed. Andrea realized that Barolo was beginning to gain in popularity and set about converting the farm and vineyards into an operation focused entirely on producing high quality wine.
40 years later it is clear that was a wise decision! For most of those 4 decades Andrea produced a classic Barolo DOCG that offered excellent value. It was from all the vineyards in la Morra plus a few parcels he has in the village of Barolo. But when they recently changed the DOCG rules to allow for commune specific labels he dropped the Barolo fruit and went all in on la Morra; another wise decision.
