A blend of 80% base vintage and 20% prior vintage, aged in both stainless steel and neutral oak.

Chalk is the name of the game at Champagne Robert Moncuit — hardly a surprise, considering the many plots they own, in some of the most esteemed parcels of the Côte des Blancs.
They've got a 2 hectare plot in Mesnil's Les Chétillons, a vineyard made famous by Pierre Peters (although you'd need a good deal of luck, and deep pockets, to find a bottle of that particular wine). The key element to this site's distinct minerality? You guessed it — chalk.

To better harness the incredible terroir they have, the family chooses to vinify all cuvées entirely in stainless steel and neutral oak, as they feel anything else would muddy the bright and fresh minerality.

The estate was founded in the late 19th century, but has only been imported stateside since 2000. From their top bottlings to his entry level cuvées, Robert Moncuit is one of our favorite growers.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

"The NV Extra-Brut Les Grands Blancs is a rich, vinous Champagne that shows the more extroverted side of Mesnil. Low dosage brings that out even more. Lemon confit, marzipan dried flowers, spice and chamomile add striking inner sweetness to a wine that balances power with translucent energy. The Grands Blancs is a terrific introduction to these wines. The current release is a blend of vintages 2015 and 2014. Dosage is 3 grams per liter." -Vinous

"Disgorged in May 2019 with three grams per liter dosage, Moncuit's NV Extra-Brut Grand Cru Les Grands Blancs is the latest rendition of the cuvée that formerly simply bore the name Blanc de Blancs. Derived from the 2015 and 2014 vintages, it's showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of ripe lemons, honeycomb and hints of the warm bread to come with a little more age on cork. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, fleshy but nicely defined, with an open core that reflects its constituent vintages, a delicate mousse and a sapid, penetrating finish." -William Kelley
