We'd argue Montée de Tonnerre is Chablis's greatest Premier Cru. For lovers of classic Chablis, this is about as close to the source as it gets. The vineyard's south- and southwest-facing slopes sit on shallow Kimmeridgian limestone threaded with veins of blue clay. That's the ancient seabed soil behind Chablis's flinty, age-worthy reputation. The Raveneaus still work the old-fashioned way, from vineyard to cellar. François Raveneau founded the domaine in 1948 by combining his holdings with his wife's family parcels. His sons Bernard and Jean-Marie still follow his approach, and Bernard's daughter Isabelle now brings in the next generation. The whole domaine makes only about 3,000 cases a year, a very small output for one of white Burgundy's most coveted names.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic Premier Cru Chablis profile at its most concentrated: lemon, green apple and white flowers over a flinty, saline, almost iodine-like minerality from the Kimmeridgian limestone. It's typically taut and focused, with bright, firm acidity, real depth from old vines and a long, chalky, dry finish. This is a style built to age.
