Today's Special is Grimm's hazy pale ale that keeps changing: the base beer stays the same and the hops change from one batch to the next, so every run is a slightly different take on the same idea. It goes back to the day Grimm opened its new Brooklyn brewery. The first version, hopped with Mosaic, Simcoe, Ekuanot and Citra lupulin powder and coming in at 5.5%, was one of the opening-day releases. When that batch ran out, the staff missed it so much that Grimm brought it back with extra Citra on top of the Mosaic and Simcoe. The series has kept moving since then, including a heavily dry-hopped Hallertau Blanc version and a New York edition made only from New York State-grown hops and malt. That's why it's worth buying again: you know the easygoing pale ale underneath, and the hops give you something new each time. It comes in 16oz cans, four to a pack, and it's an easy one to keep in the fridge.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Baja-style fish tacos with lime crema; a pork banh mi with pickled carrot and cilantro; a spicy fried chicken sandwich; Thai basil chicken (pad kra pao); a white clam pizza.

Tasting Profile

Expect a hazy, easy-drinking American pale ale with a soft, light-to-medium body and gentle bitterness. The aromas change with each batch's hops, but they typically land somewhere between juicy citrus, tropical fruit and a touch of pine. Think of a lighter, more sessionable New England IPA that finishes clean and refreshing.
