This is Dalmatian Syrah cut with a native grape to keep it light on its feet. Bibich makes CRNO from Syrah and Plavina, a local variety the family uses to lighten the denser Syrah. The name means "black," so you can guess where the Syrah wants to go; the Plavina is there to rein it in. The vines average 38 years old and grow on six hectares of karst and limestone around Plastovo, near Croatia's Adriatic coast. They're farmed organically and picked by hand. In the cellar, the family keeps intervention to a minimum. The family has been making wine here since the late 1400s, and an appearance on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations brought the winery global attention. If you love Syrah and want to see what it does on Adriatic limestone, this is a great way to step off the usual Rhône-and-Barossa map.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

Perfect Pairings

Lamb peka (lamb and potatoes slow-roasted under an iron bell), grilled ćevapi with ajvar, rosemary-crusted lamb chops, Dalmatian pršut with sheep's-milk cheese, or charred eggplant and peppers off the grill.

Tasting Profile

Expect a Mediterranean take on Syrah: blackberry and black plum with cracked pepper, dried herbs and a savoury, stony edge. It's typically medium-bodied rather than dense, with fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins, and it finishes dry and peppery. Think of a lighter, more herbal cousin of Northern Rhône Syrah.
