For generations Dakishvili family has worked the soils of Georgia's eastern Kakheti region, famous for its wine making history with its ideal climate for harvesting the ancient, local grape varieties. Orgo is the brainchild of Temur Dakishvili, whose father is the legendary Gogi Dakishvili. Their family winery sits in the foothills of the Gombori range, with the Alazani River Valley and the Caucasus Mountains to the north.
Like his father Gogi, Temur raised, harvests, and ferments in the way his ancestors have for millenia. It's when the wines are racked out of Qvevri when things begin a bit to diverge from tradition. As well as aging in traditional Georgian clay vessels, he incorporates neutral oak barrels and bottles when he thinks the wines are at their best.. This is his way of expressing a different side to these ancient wines. A side that’s a bit more lifted and restrained. They retain a brooding quality and deep exotic flavors while showcasing lifted floral notes, herbaceousness and linear minerality.
Along with these cellar practices, Temur only works with vines over 50 years old, a rarity in a region that still values quantity over quality. These old vines, many of them over 80 years old, contribute to wines that are structured yet elegant. The region has cold nights and hot days and Temur takes advantage of this diurnal shift, picking his grapes with acidity in mind.
Not only is Georgia the oldest wine region in the world, it is among its best with yet still untapped potential.
Orgo’s ancient, elegant and expressive wines are just the tip of the spear.
