This is the easiest way into Raveneau, one of the most sought-after names in Chablis, and it comes in magnum. Nearly everything the domaine makes is grand cru or premier cru, and the whole estate turns out only about 3,000 cases a year, so the Petit Chablis is the friendliest door into the house. It comes from a single 0.82-hectare parcel on the plateau above the grands crus. The vines were planted in 2010 on very white, stony Portlandian limestone, which is younger and harder than the Kimmeridgian soils below. The family calls the parcel their "new baby," and its first vintage was 2014. It's Raveneau's lightest, most fruit-forward wine, and still made in the same old-fashioned way by François Raveneau's sons Bernard and Jean-Marie, with Bernard's daughter Isabelle now working alongside them. A magnum like this is made for a full table.

Antonio Galloni

88 points

"The 2023 Petit Chablis has notes of wet pavement on the nose. It's simple but effective. The palate is well balanced, with a touch of menthol on the entry. This has good depth and a hint of peppermint on the finish. Enjoy this over the next five years." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

91 points

"Derived from vines planted in 2010, just above the grands crus, Raveneau's 2023 Petit Chablis is showing very well, wafting from the glass with notes of pear, peach and orange zest. Textural and more fruit-driven in the context of the other wines in the range, it’s medium to full-bodied, bright and precise, concluding with a delicately chalky finish." —Kristaps Karklins
