Yes, that Roulot: one of Meursault's most sought-after white Burgundy names also makes a lemon liqueur, and it's more than a novelty. In this family, distilling came before winemaking. Only a generation before Guy Roulot made the domaine's name in Meursault, the Roulots were distilling their grapes instead of turning them into wine. Guy died suddenly in 1982 while his son Jean-Marc was working as an actor in Paris. The liqueurs still carry the family name today. Le Citron works on the same principle as the domaine's Meursaults: the sweetness is held in check by acidity, so it comes across bright rather than syrupy. (It has a sister bottle, too: L'Abricot du Roulot, made from Bergeron apricots grown in Jean-Louis Chave's orchards.) Serve it well chilled and on its own after dinner. A 1-litre bottle goes a long way around the table.
