The beautiful Pinots of Katie and Mark Wentworth, of the relatively new Wentworth Vineyards, are illustrative examples of this shift in value and style. They organically and regeneratively farm two cool-climate, high elevation coastal vineyards in Northern California. Wentworth Vineyard is the farthest west vineyard in the US, a mere 3 miles from the cooling and foggy influence of the Pacific Ocean, at 1,200 feet in elevation. Their Nash Mill vineyard is in the coolest section of Anderson Valley, known more for Roederer's sparkling wines than still.
They produce minuscule quantities of three Pinot Noirs from the two sites, with barrel selections getting the vineyard designation. The Anderson Valley bottling is a blend of the two, and anything deemed unworthy is sold off in bulk.
