A Barolo house making serious traditional-method sparkling wine — and doing it with the same seriousness they bring to Serralunga. This is 100% Chardonnay from Cigliè, in the hills just south of the Langhe at 500–580 metres, where the altitude is high enough that the appellation is literally named for it (Alta Langa, established only in 2002). Grapes come in by hand in small baskets and go straight to the press as whole clusters, with only the free-run juice kept; fermentation is split between 500-litre French oak tonneaux and stainless steel. Then at least 65 months on the lees in bottle, and disgorgement with zero dosage — no liqueur at all, which takes real confidence in your fruit. The result is a bone-dry, deeply savory sparkler that drinks like a grower Champagne but tastes unmistakably of the high Piedmontese hills. If you already know Germano for Barolo, this is the bottle that will surprise you.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

One of the great things about Serralunga -- aside from its exceptional terroir -- is that it is still dominated, Burgundy-like, by small, traditionally-minded producers who each focus on their own individual vineyard holdings. Ettore Germano is one of our favorite examples. Their wines have all the intensity of great Serralunga and the soulfulness of traditionally-made Langhe wines, but also a warmth and friendliness that invites early drinking.

Perfect Pairings

Veal tonnato, fried zucchini blossoms, raw scallops or oysters, a plate of prosciutto and grissini, fritto misto, or aged Castelmagno with hazelnuts.

Tasting Profile

Straw yellow with a fine, persistent bead. Toasted bread crust and hillside flowers on the nose, with a distinctly salty, mineral edge. Bone dry with no dosage at all, and savory rather than sweet.
