Forty-two months on the lees, which is longer than vintage Champagne is required to spend, and this is South African sparkling wine. Melissa Genevieve Nelsen flew planes before she found wine, learned the ropes at a local estate and then mentored under the legendary Ross Gower of Klein Constantia, and launched her own label in 2008 dedicated to one thing only: Methode Cap Classique. She and her partner Leon, a viticulturist, farm regeneratively on a mountain farm in the Van der Stel Pass above the Bot River, in the cool Overberg corner of the Western Cape. This is all Chardonnay, hand-picked at low sugar to protect the natural acidity and whole-bunch pressed. Genevieve is her middle name, given by parents who came home from Paris taken with the city and its patron saint. When we poured it at our last big tasting it was the runaway favorite and we sold out of every bottle on hand.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

Perfect Pairings

Oysters, creamy pasta, roast halibut with fennel and preserved lemon. Also the right call with fried chicken or a bowl of salted almonds before dinner.

Tasting Profile

Lifted, wispy aromas of pineapple, mango and ripe peach alongside citrus, white flowers, fresh pear and a hazelnut note from the long lees aging. Light golden-green in the glass, with tiny, persistent, delicate bubbles. Dry, with a distinct mineral edge and real cut on the finish.
