Jean Bourdy Cotes du Jura Vin Jaune 2017 (620ml)

That squat little 620ml bottle isn’t a marketing decision — it’s what’s left of a liter of wine after seven years in barrel with no topping up, and the clavelin is the only bottle in France licensed to hold it. Savagnin goes into old casks deliberately left part-empty, a film of yeast called the voile forms across the surface, and the wine slowly turns into something closer to fino sherry than to any other white in France — except that it’s bone dry, unfortified and entirely its own thing. The Bourdy family has been doing this in Arlay since 1475, fifteen generations of it, Demeter-certified biodynamic since 2008 and famously in no hurry to release anything. Vin Jaune is essentially immortal: a closed bottle will keep for decades, and an open one will still be good a week later on the counter. Serve it cool but not cold, in a normal wine glass rather than a small one, and put a wedge of aged Comté next to it.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

The classic pairing is aged Comté, and the other classic is chicken in a cream and morel sauce. It also handles curry, walnuts and roasted almonds better than almost any other white.

Tasting Profile

Bone dry and full-bodied, with walnut, bruised apple, curry spice and toasted almond. The palate is intense and salty rather than sweet, with firm acidity and no oak sweetness. The finish goes on for minutes.
